Blogging can tend to get a little “Look at me, look at me!,” so I think it’s great when we can use these communities we’ve built for good. That’s why I was thrilled when Molly Beckert, the founder of Echoing Good, reached out to me about an online bake sale to benefit a community in need in Gulu, Uganda.
A little backstory- Echoing Good is a nonprofit organization that supports small-scale projects that are community led and inspired. In Gulu, Uganda, where malnutrition is depriving many children of the chance to get an education, Echoing Good is working directly with the local community to develop farms that enable lunch programs in primary schools. The crops grown provide students with daily nutritious meals and excess crops are sold to generate money that is reinvested back into maintaining the farms. This one meal eases the financial burden on families to provide their kids with every meal, prevents hunger and malnutrition, and ultimately keeps the children in school. Echoing Good’s program currently feeds over 1,400 kids every day. Pretty incredible, right?
To raise funds, I’ve teamed up with a bunch of amazing bloggers to auction off some tantalizing baked goods. I’ll be making a batch of Salted Brown Butter Rice Crispy Treats (the dessert that never lasts more than 24 hours in our house), but be sure to head over to the Echoing for Good Facebook page to get a sneak peak of what others are making! That’s also where all the bidding will take place. A winning bid gets you a personal batch of goodies shipped directly to your door! Bidding starts tomorrow (July 19th) at 10 am Pacific time and lasts through July 20th. See further details above. Now let’s do some good, friends!
What a great idea for a great cause!
