Setting the Table: Late Summer Harvest

Late August barefoot days and summer breezes are the best, don’t you think? You’ve probably noticed that it’s quite dangerous to go to the farmer’s market these days. You swing by for a well-intentioned tomato, and, before you know it- come home with baskets of Persian cucumbers and zebra eggplant. Luckily, summer is the best time to experiment with veggies at their best, and, in the worst case, if you just add cheese, it’s guaranteed to be delicious.

A late summer meal, highlighting your favorite dishes of the season, is definitely a cause for celebration. A table set outdoors with fresh flowers, and mismatched chairs and silverware will strike the perfect casual note. Caprese Salad (I swear, this salad never gets old) and some Eggplant Salad Toasts would be a good place to start. This Zucchini Gratin also looks seriously amazing. Seemingly long summer days are all too fleeting, so live them up before they’re gone!

These photos are just gorgeous! Thanks for linking to that zucchini recipe on Smitten Kitchen – I was actually just looking for some recipes to use up zucchini earlier, and didn’t come across that one!

  3. Such a pretty post! I agree that this time of year is prefect for Caprese salads. I’m also a big fan of Panzanella. Really anything that features delicious tomatoes! :)
