It’s finally about that time of year again where grilling season is back, and here to stay. Luckily for us, Father’s Day coincides perfectly with it! I, Sarah, know its rather typical, but if there’s one thing my dad is willing to do to help with cooking, it’s operating the grill. Its something about the combination of meat or seafood, fire, and charcoal that makes him eager to pick up the cooking responsibilities for the night. I, on the other hand, just love getting to eat outside! Lighthearted conversation and a perfectly mixed playlist are touches that will carry your party right into dusk. Outdoor entertaining is best when kept simple, and the table can certainly reflect that. I think most dads would prefer the ‘simple is best’ rule as well.
Father’s Day is the perfect opportunity to spice things up and venture past hamburgers and hotdogs. With the backdrop of grilling, even new dishes will seem like comfortable favorites. Chimichurri sauce is a simple touch that will really bring life to grilled flank steak. Served alongside grilled mangoes with jalapeno vinaigrette, it becomes a study in spicy and sweet. I know for my dad the beverage of choice would beer, but even lime infused water would do the trick. For dessert, classic ice cream sandwiches get an upgrade when you make them yourself, and are the natural choice for an outdoor meal. Whatever you choose, I’m sure any dad would be happy with a meal that was prepared with him in mind. I’d love to hear, what do you plan to make this Father’s Day?
