Sandwich Spotlight

We are beyond spoiled in our neighborhood when it comes to good food. We usually try new restaurants for dinner, but back in December, when Brandon was traveling for work and I had zero food and big work deadline looming, I popped out to grab lunch. Just a few blocks away is a tiny sandwich shop affectionately named Saltie.  I had read great things about their sandwiches, so I decided to pick one up. I have to admit, I was a bit unsure about their menu at first glance. Having no idea what to order, I asked the cashier what their most popular sandwich was and went with that.  It was the “Scuttlebutt,” a combination of sliced egg, pickled vegetables, feta, capers, black olives, and pimentón aioli on sea salt focaccia bread. Yeah, quite the combination! I was nervous how the whole thing was going to go over taste wise, but I have to say, it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I devoured the whole thing! I love places that really nail it on creative sandwich combinations, don’t you? What’s your favorite sandwich combo?

That looks like a monster sandwich, full of flavour. I love a good sandwich – in fact, they truly can’t be beaten. I’d have to say that my favourite combination was bacon with some nice peppery lettuce leaves and a little parmesan. Or perhaps hummus with olives and salad. Then again, I do love tomatoes. Basically, there are just way too many good sandwich options to decide! That’s the beauty of the sandwich.

    • I know, it’s too hard to choose! I love anything with olives, I’m absolutely addicted to them- and my favorite hummus is actually Greek olive hummus. I’ll take it all :) .
